Been awhile since I been here but a member for a while . I been searching to find out info on these two guns stocks grades . The WingMasters say the stocks are C grade and the American Classic is B grade . Can someone please explain the difference other than the fact that the WingMasters are High Gloss and the American Classic has B-grade walnut stock . Both are made of Walnut .

Can't help you with that question...but I'm sure some member here will know.

Always believed one was a better grade of walnut over the other. I have a TB model 1100 with fancier and better figured grade of walnut than the TA model made at one time. Sure gotta pay for guns made today with fancy figured walnut.

Not sure the B-grade, C-grade, etc. is an industry standard, or even all that consistent over the 65+ years the 870's been in production. If you've got time on your hands, you could dig through these old Remington catalog scans and see what you can work out.

Personally, I think a simple straight-grain piece of walnut is its own kind of pretty. Good, properly-aligned straight grain has better structural properties than fancy-figured stuff, and can still look really great with a nice finish applied.
