:?: I have an early model 722 that I recently acquired, 12/1948, barrel code XTT, that does not have the rear top of the receiver drilled & tapped for scope mounting bases, only the front top of the bridge is d&t. I understand that there were special scope mounts made by Stith (and maybe others) that used the front top receiver d&t holes as well as the two side d&t holes that were intended for a receiver mounted peep sight.
Three questions I have are:
1- does anyone know the numbers of the Stith bases/mounts I need to look for to use on this rifle?
2- what is the make and part number of the peep sights made to fit this rifle?
3- if the side holes are used to mount a stith scope base or a peep sight, does the wood have to be cut/notched to permit it?

PS: From some other blogs I have read, it also appears that the Stith mounts require a scope that can be disassembled to use them. Not aware of any modern scope today that can be disassembled.

I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Rip :?
