I'm a new owner of the rm 380, and after putting about 40 rounds through it, I broke it down for a cleaning. I was pleased with the pistol until I tried to clean the barrel, only to discover the poor machining of the bore. The lands are OK , but the groves have very deep visible scratches , more so toward muzzle. This is something that a mere cleaning or polishing will not remove. I contacted Remington, and customer service is to send me a return package for the pistol to be sent to Mark's Outdoor Sports in Birmingham, AL. for warranty work (although according to Remington in Madison NC, they currently do not have any replacement barrels). It just does not make sense to have to send the complete gun in for a barrel change, but it's not my business. Anyone else have a problem with their barrel?

Today,I spoke with "Joe " at Mark's Outdoor Sports, explained the problem and asked if he'd seen this before . He indicated that several barrels have been changed out for the same reason. Glad to know that I'm not the only one. I also asked about changing the draw bar to the improved version and he said that unless the original was not working or broken, it would not be replace under warranty. Its seems ridiculous not to replace a small item such as the draw bar when the pistol is in for service as opposed to the expense of maybe later returning it for warranty replacement. This pistol is my first experience with Remington and I'll be waiting to see how they handle my concerns.

Well, it's been several weeks now, and no new barrel from Remington sent to Mark's. I have a tough time understanding why Remington can not just pull a barrel off the production line. At this point, I do not think much of Remington's customer service or should I say ,the lack of ! A CS rep. said he'd check into it , but that's been several days ago . Still have not heard back from him. Oh well, what can you do, except to wait. This has the makings of a bad experience with Remington.

Today, April 8, I received my rm380 from Marks, 42 days after shipping to them by UPS. Although I have not shot the pistol yet, the replacement barrel is a MUCH better machined barrel, on par with other conventional rifled barrels. It looks like someone actually inspected it before shipping! I'll see how it shoots next week.

952smith, you lost me there, what is a drawbar on these guns? I grew up on a large farm and we had drawbars on our tractors, LOL. I know far from everything so please inform me what part this is.

I know this original post is old now but just to warn new buyers - I had the same problem with my RM380 - the rough barrel and they refuse to fix it. They said this is common with this gun and it doesn't affect the function and won't fix it. I just got off the phone with a supervisor for customer service. It may function ok but it's hard to clean and will attract deposits. I am not happy with Remington.
