Hello
I am relatively new to guns.
I won this old Remington 308 model #788 left hand bolt in a poker game.
My problem is twice this rifle has fired the bullet as I pushed the bolt forward to lock the new chambered bullet.
Scared the crap out of me the first time but assumed it was a fluke.
Second time it happened I unloaded the gun and have not fired it since.
I live in a small rural Northern Nevada town.
Also any thoughts on, is this a good gun or not?
Thanks for any thoughts.

Have you checked for a protruding firing pin? The 788 was a more economical model but proved to be very accurate and is well sought after today. Definitely have it checked out by a smith before attempting to fire it again.

No problem. Have a gunsmith check it out but hold onto that 788. Though to find often and like I said that rear lock-up proved accurate.
