Is this my ONLY laser mount option for 20 GA Express?

I want to install a small laser. So far, this here seems to be my only mounting option:

http://www.brownells.com/optics-moun...12-62-403.aspx

Now, this means going over the receiver, making it a bit of a PITA for complete disassembly/cleaning, but more important--similar models don't get great reviews at all. They either dig into your hand, or don't hold at all. (Hold zero that is, and granted, not a major deal for a shotgun but you still want it decent.)

I went to BassPro yesterday and the guy was ready to sell me a small tube rail, and when I asked, "Are you sure that will work for a Rem 870 Express 20 gauge?" he scuttled to the back room computer, to return and say, "No. Sorry. You'll have to order something online."

When I got home and examined my gun, I realized there's no way you can put anything on this tube. There's no place to put one.

I should add. My bad:

This is the Youth model, and I THINK because of the shorter barrel, the tube is designed or placed differently, leaving zero space on the tube to attach anything.

Don't they make mounts that I can put on my BARREL? As opposed to the receiver mount I linked above?

Let's try this, and I have my eye on a Beamshot 800:

I personally do not like the mounts that use the trigger pin screws.
Why not use the tapped holes on top of the receiver......?
they were put there just for this purpose and for this simple mount that will accept all lasers, red dots and scope rings.

I knew this model didn't have much (if any) accessory options, but all I really care about is this mount.

If I HAVE to, I'll go with that receiver model, but it seems like overkill for a tiny laser that's only a few inches long. Also, since I'll eventually buy a bore sight, I don't think it will be a big deal for me to regularly zero it:

Even with slugs, we're still just talking about a shotgun. I don't expect to be treading any needles with it.

Can you find a machinist or smith that can drill and tap the top of the receiver?

Or search for a "cantilever" barrel to add to it?

Brand-new gun, so I wouldn't buy a new barrel just for this reason. Also, I specifically bought the youth model because of its shorter stock and barrel (21"), because I'm a little guy.

I think I'll take my time and see if anyone in my "social circle" has the skills to machine this for me.

I don't think you want to attach a laser to the top of your receiver; it'll block the sights. Receiver-top rails are only good for mounting optics or sights. There are ways to attach a small mount or laser to the front end of a 20ga 870. Does your 870 have a magazine extension, or just a magazine cap?

I used a saddle mount on my 870 for a while. The recoil caused it to cut my hand if used repeatedly with heavy loads..

I would look into getting the receiver tapped, any gunsmith can do it. There are DIY videos on it as well but I would recommend getting it professionally done unless you know what you are doing. It's too east to get the screws misaligned which will defeat the entire purpose.

I have seen barrel clamp style rails. Just Google it

B-Square makes a bolt on cantilever mount that is pretty good but it needs a vent rib to attach to.

They don't make a laser that will screw into the cap of a 20 gauge 870 tube. Remington makes one for 12 gauge, and the reviews are crap anyway. And the 870 Youth offers no magazine extension options.

As for my linked saddle mount, I heard that the metal ones like this can slice into your hand--but after holding my shotgun, I don't see how. Also, this a 20, not 12. And also again, Weaver makes a polymer/plastic model.

As far as front sight blockage, I don't care. That's going to be the same if I tap or not. The thing is...

I don't HAVE any other options, it appears. There is no other way to mount this on this gun.

I also checked on the barrel clamps, and they all go from like .75 inch to whatever millimeters maximum. And measuring my 20 gauge barrel, it seems to be a hair less than .75. I could probably jerry rig it with an insert, but note my long iron sight.

Would it still attach?

I don't know if this will work or not, but I just ordered it anyway:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/UTG-MNT-BR005 ... s/39415023

I have a HEADACHE from trying to figure this out, and if it doesn't work, it still looks heavy enough to throw the window.

That will make me feel better.

That barrel mount from Wal-Mart arrived and it fits perfectly, even with the long iron sight bar. And it's flattened on two sides to accommodate barrels/sights exactly like this.

For 14 bucks plus shipping, I'm a happy camper. Plus, it allows me to mount the laser on the underside of the barrel, not obstructing my iron sight at all.

I finally got lucky!

So far, anyway.
