I purchased a R1 Carry that I have been having FTF issues with and would like to know if anyone has any ideas on how to fix. I have fired 300 rounds of WWB 230 grain fmj to try and break in this pistol, when I picked up the gun from my my LGS I noticed that when I released the slide to go into battery it would hang up about an inch from locking up, the owner of the LGS said it was due to the fact that it was a very tight 1911 and it would loosen up after a few hundred rounds. Now that I have fired 300 rounds through it the slide doesn't hang up as much but I am getting a FTF about every 3-4 rounds, the round seems to hang up entering the chamber it will not go into battery with a slap to the back of the slide I have to eject the round by pulling back on the slide then feed the next round. I only have the factory supplied magazines so I am not sure if it is magazine related or not.

I know I can ship it back to Remington for them to fix but was hoping to rectify the issue myself if possible. I had a Ruger SR1911 Commander that I traded in for this purchase that ran nearly 2500 rounds through without any issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what to say, JTH. I bought a new R1 Commander last December and have put almost 1000 rounds thru her, firing seven brands of ammo, including Remington hollow points. All seven of my magazines are Remington and have performed flawlessly. I've also shot quite a few WWB, and aside from it being a bit dirty, it was fine otherwise. The R1 is a very tightly fit weapon and for that reason I always field strip her and lube her up good, especially around the barrel bushing, prior to firing at the range. Do keep us posted on this, OK?

Sorry for your troubles. Before returning the pistol I would dissemble and clean it with a spray gun cleaner to remove all grease and oil. Examine the feed ram for any obvious roughness. Then, without any lubrication, try just the slide on the frame to check for a burr or rough spot that is causing the problem. If nothing is found, try adding the barrel, without the spring and do the same thing. I would also do these tests with the magazine and dummy rounds. It could be as simple as too much grease or a sliver of metal causing the problem. I would also examine the recoil spring, especially the ends for any breakage or wear. Best of luck to you on getting it running again.

I had a very similar problem with an R1 Enhanced, ultimately it was replaced and no troubles since.
