Just received the July issue of Guns and Ammo which features and article on new ammo made from a mix of powdered copper metal and an epoxy-polymer resin. Bullet formed by squirting it at high pressure into a mold. Bullets cool and then harden. Currently using brass case but experimenting with plastic cases also. Bullet is designed not to expand but to act like a hydrodynamic ram the article states.

Yeah pretty good issue Shooter. I think this ammo is available in .380 now but at $30 a box. Also has a test on 10 compact single stack 9MMs. Not always in the market for new stuff but like to keep up with the latest coming on the market.

That's why I still get the paper editions of Guns & Ammo... and Handguns...and Guns...and American Hand Gunner...and American Rifleman...to keep up with the new stuff before it hits the streets. |

Plan to stick with my Smith and Wesson CS-9 as it is concealable and METAL. Now it looks like plastic bullets!! And to think I was surprised at the influx of synthetic stocks!! Must be gettin old.

I remember surplus south african 556 ammo that was coming here, had to be well over 10 years ago. Had a brass head, but most of the case was plastic. Was good blasting ammo.

I would still like to see case less ammo come around. Would be a HUGE thing for our Military at the very least. Plus...I've got a soft spot for a G11.

Can't throw away new tech. poly and carbon fiber, 3-D printers, if it can weigh less and hit harder you can carry more and do more damage. From a military stand point and for the most part that is......... |

The concept has been tried before...but largely ignored by the military...which also means the firearm industry...and the public at large.

I knew a little about it before and just just did a little more research the other day. I wasn't aware of the contract until recent. I think it's about time though. Tech has come a long way recently |

It just makes good sense...brass is a commodity whose components ( copper and zinc ) must be mined...plastic is man made and much more easily renewable.
Just like the Russians use steel as a replacement to brass...plastic is the future of ammo casings. |

I remember seeing that at the range. I laughed as it got hotter the rounds seeded to wilt/bend in the heat. I think I still have a couple of spent cases around here. |

Anytime a new ammo maker's ad blitz states "forget everything you have ever heard about conventional hollow point bullet performance and what maybe works, because we have thrown all that out the window"...
Well. You know. Look at the Lehigh Extreme Penetrator all-copper CNC bullet and how dismal it is. But it's almost the exact same bullet profile: a Phillips Screwdriver tip. Some patents ran out on a bullet design (Devel) similar to these which never flew at all in the marketplace, and somebody (actually a few) are trying to re-sell a failed idea.
