I did some extra plumbing work for a excavation customer, and was paid with a 788 in 222 rem. I had one years ago, I remember it shot like a house afire. It has surface rust, and the stock looks like someone took a chainsaw to it. But the bore is shiny, with very good rifling. My question, how have you folks that have them dealt with the ejected cartridges hitting the scope and bouncing back into the action? Thanks for any help

It's been a long time ago but I remember rotating my scope 90 degrees so that the left to right adjustment turret became up and down and the up and down became the left and right. Whether it completely solved the problem or not I don't recall. I only had one knowledgeable shooter point out I had my scope on wrong!

An older thread, but I solved it on mine by removing the long scope mount that traversed the receiver ejection port and went to separate front and rear receiver mounts. I don't know if any strength or alignment is lost, but my .308 ejects never hit the scope. All eject perfectly fine.
