I purchased a Remington 870 express tactical exactly one week ago at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I brought it home and loaded it with 6 rounds of Winchester PDX HD ammo and stuck it in the closet, hoping that I would get a chance to go to the range sometime soon. On Monday or Tuesday I bought two boxes of 3” “00” buckshot to possibly use as HD loads. Well, last night I decided to unload the Winchester PDX loads which are 2 3/4” and load it with the 3” “00”, just to see if the magazine would still hold 6 rounds. I unloaded 4 shells, then all of a sudden the remaining shells would not release from the magazine. Upon further inspection I noticed that the right shell latch was not moving outboard like the left shell latch was, which prevents the shell from exiting the magazine. At that point I put the gun away and figured I would call Remington in the morning and find out about repair procedures. Well, I did call Remington this morning and I have to send my 1 week old, never been shot, shotgun to KY for repairs. Also, while looking closer at the malfunctioning right shell latch, I noticed scratches and gouges around the shell latch. It almost looks like someone had a previous problem with this gun and tried to pry the latch open or closed. But, how could this be? I purchased the gun new from Dick’s. Dick’s has a “no return” policy on their shotguns, so this shotgun couldn’t have been a return item.
Needless to say I am very disappointed with Remington and possibly Dick’s.
Extremely disappointed

Good luck proving to Remington that you were not the one who put the scratches and gouges on the shell latch. The dealer will not admit to doing it. Remington will take the dealers word over yours.

X2 also sorry to hear this. Being a Remington fan it is a constant battle trying to convince others that my remingtons are as good as brand X. There is a real problem with the quality of many new firearms i hope they fix it for you. If you can't sell it don't buy it

Well, it didn't take remington long to fix (hopefully) my shotgun. I sent it back last Thursday (18th) and got a notice from them that they shipped it back this Thursday. I don't know what they did to repair it, but I should get it back Wednesday.

Glad remington took care of it for you that is just good business . A happy customer tells 3 people an unhappy customer tells 20 people so it pays to take care of problems Why would you have an untested gun loaded on the house ? I don't like to trust a gun with less than 500 rounds though it for defence Roy |

Hopefully Remington will make it right. Any manufacturer can have problems given the number of guns that turn out. Frustrating as it can be, how they handle it is what counts.

Hard to say who did what and when with your gun. I used to sell guns. I have gotten in new guns with no firing pin, no extractor, you name it. And some of them cost a lot more than a Remington repeater. Most all manufacturers will make it right, some are just a lot more hassle than others. According to SAAMI, 40% of all new guns made last year had problems. Blame Harvard Business School. Back in the 80s Toyota reliability was the hallmark of the world, but then along came the school of thought that it is more efficient to cut internal QC and address any problems that get out through customer service. Recall city.
Hope Remington took care of it for you, but if not, don't hesitate to get right back on the phone with them. What could have happened... did.
