I will pick up my latest estate sale item tomorrow, it's an 1100 in 28ga, 25" Skeet choke. Best I can find out is it's possibly from the late 70's or early 80's. I purchased the shotgun with the idea of finding a 28ga, 25", VR, Imp Cyl extra barrel for bird hunting. I'm thinking the skeet choke maybe too full of a pattern for birds. Does anyone know if such an animal is still available? I made a quick search of some of the used gun sites and ebay, but no luck. The gun is in minty condition and I hope to find something in similar condition. Thanks!

the skeet choked barrel will be more open then the IC one you are looking for.
Here they are in typical order by constriction in thousandths. Cylinder 0.000 Skeet 1 0.005 Improved Cylinder 0.010 Skeet 2 (light Mod.) 0.015 Modified 0.020 Improved Modified 0.025 Full 0.030 Extra Full 0.040 Turkey 0.045 Extra barrels for these firearms are about as easy to find as a Unicorn with hens teeth. I have a matched pair 28 and 410 both with skeet barrels and have been looking for extra barrels for years to no avail.....I would like a Modified for the 28 and a Full for the 410 We have done so much for so long with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing!

Thank you for the information. Having the constriction data is very helpful. I had no idea there are so many chokes available. Again, thanks.

The new barrels will fit, and there are a lot of used ones available too. A fixed Skeet 28 may be a bit rare, but with the ability to have tubes fitted it is of small consequence in my opinion. My barrel started out as a 25" Skeet, but now it has choke tubes so it's more versatile.

Now that the Holidays are near over, I will continue my search for a barrel. Again, thanks to all for the information. I've been looking in the usual places for a barrel, but if anyone can shed some light on where to look, I would appreciate the help. Ed

Still looking for a barrel. Found a 28ga, Imp cyl, 26in, just what the Doctor ordered. But, the seller doesn't know if it's a 1100 or 1148 barrel. are they interchangeable? Will a 1148 will it work? Thanks. Ed

No they are not interchangeable. Not even real close. I believe an 1100 28 gauge barrel is going to be either 25" or 27" in length. I do not remember what length the Special Field style Sam Walton Commemoratives were, but I think 21". Mike Orlen can fit choke tubes to your barrel for less than $100, and he does excellent work. See below.
