i inherited my 11-87 from passed family and i took it apart to clean it. and while going back together i was having difficulties.

i have looked thru every part explosion i can find. and even in this forum and i can't find this listed in the parts listing.

can someone tell me where this goes? it almost looks like it goes in with the pistons.

any help would be appreciated.

It is a Remington Gas Cylinder Collar Spring. I also cannot find it in any documentation but I see it listed as parts at various sites.

best answer i could find while searching is that it attaches to the barrel:

Note the shiny part on the lower barrel.

"The vent rib barrel is pressure compensating for a variety of loads (that shiny piece is a spring clip that covers the venting ports- keeps them closed on lower pressure shells). It pops open when gas pressures are higher. That way the action sleeve gets the same amount of "oomph" for each cycle."

Be careful. If you overspring it just a tiny bit, it will have cycling issues.
What could have happened... did.
