Hi Guys,
I have a Versa Max tactical that I want to use for deer hunting. Also I'm in NY state, so to make it legal I removed the magazine extension tube and replaced the magazine spring with a standard length spring I received directly from Remington. I took the gun to the range to test fire. I loaded one in the chamber and 4 in the mag. The first shell fired but the shell in the mag did not load into the chamber, instead it became stuck under shell catch latch. Once I removed that stuck shell the remaining three will load and fire properly. The mag spring from Remington is 18" long. I'm shooting 2.75" Federal rifled slugs.
This problems seem to me to be caused by a mag spring that is too long or too short.
Remington sent me the 18" spring and the spring retainer, but using the spring retainer only enables me to load 3 shells (2.75") in the magazine instead of 4. I can get about half of a 4th shell in the mag.
I'm thinking of getting another spring and cutting it down 1.375 (half of 2.75) and see what happens.
Has anyone else done this already? I can't be the first.
Thanks

Do u have the mag tube plug? With the plug installed, you can only load 2 in the mag and one in the pipe. With loading 4 in tube, shell is binding up from high pressure on spring

Well what do you know, it says right in the manual the magazine takes up to 3 shells of any size. I'm used to shooing an 1100 (4+1). So I'm working fine, thanks.
