Anyone had a 552 barrel relined? I have a 1957 edition 552 that is shot out. Would like to repair it and pass it on to one of my sons who learned to shoot with the gun his dad learned on.

This is actually something you can do yourself with help from stuff at Brownells. Instructions:
http://www.brownells.com/userdocs/docum ... st-143.pdf

Read that and consider giving it a try.

Thanks! This is where i got the idea from. Doesn't look too tricky on a barrel where both ends can be accessed easily. The 552 barrel extends behind the chamber a couple of inches, which means a liner cannot be trimmed or adjusted after the epoxy sets. That's too tricky for me for a first time...

I'll look at the 552 manual, but I think the barrel comes out pretty easily.

It does come apart easily. My concern is that the barrel extends behind the the breech and includes feed ramps, ejector, ejector port, and bolt assembly guide. All part of the barrel assembly.
Breech is inside the barrel to the left in these photos. (Two different barrels.)

Have you tried Numrich e-GunPartsCorp for a replacement barrel? Parts swapping is one way to go, unless you want to keep that original barrel. Then re-lining it is your path.

That's what I did for now. Picked up a pretty rough one and refinished it. Well pleased with the results; first time bluing a full barrel and it came out looking like factory job. Still going to pursue the relining for tho old barrel since it was my first gun....

are you SURE all the rifling is gone? try some real deep cleaning with a good bore cleaner and a brass brush. mine was like that when i bought it and after a 2 hour cleaning session i had the bore back to normal appearance. it was leaded up so bad when i started i almost could could not force a hoppes soaked patch through the bore!! lead bullets usually are too soft to wear out a bore. try this, i think you may be surprised. if that doesnt solve the problem a new barrel would probably be the best option. GOOD LUCK.
