The trigger won't reset on my .22 magnum 597. The hammer will cock but the trigger will not reset so you can fire it. Is there a piece broken?

There is a small silver spring inside of the trigger assembly it is attached to a push through pin. It keeps the trigger set. Could be broken or unatached. Did you have it apart?
If you can't sell it don't buy it

I have had my 597 for about a year - when shooting yesterday I let a friend shoot it and next thing I know he is complaining that the charging handle is missing - I found it on the ground - he must have pulled it out -
I pushed the tension spring up but it still seems loose is there a part missing ? Or how do I make that tighter ? |

You can bend up the leaf spring that holds it in place, but be very careful that you don't bend it so much it snaps off.

My trigger housing wiggles a lot.
Do you have any ideas on how to fix this issue? Sent from my SGH-I317M using Tapatalk |

Guys I bought the 597 and it ran through every piece of OLD 22 ammo I had laying around with out a hitch,,, NOW suddenly it will not cycle Federal ammo, it shoots but will not eject.
And not chamber all Winchester ammo, it may chamber 3 or 4 out of a full clip. The bolt pick up the round but it will not go into battery, sometimes if you push the charging handle forward it will, but other times nada, then it might run the next 3 or 4 rounds with out a hitch, then same thing again, Any ideas? |

As posted by another member here, I got a Volquartsen extractor and that solved my extraction probs.
I have the 597M, .22 Magnum. While I have posted several times that my 597 has had FTF/FTE problems, it seems my son, home from the Army, 20 years may have solved my problem. It seems all the problems for 597M may have been, just old ammunition. First of all...the different versions of magazines work just fine, the original plastic ones and versions 1-3. It still makes me wonder though, could all the other people who own a 597m also just had old ammo? My 597m was mfg. in Feb. 2000, so I am thinking of also replacing the springs. |
