Hello all, Been a shooter all my life, NRA lifetime. Things are tough here in N Calif for gun enthusiasts, but we always vote even if there's no chance it'll get better.
I recently had a good friend pass, and his wife offered one of his rifles to me, a Remington 740 in 30.06. I got it out of 10 day gun jail today, and am getting a good look at it for the first time. I posted on another forum, and was advised that the rails tended to gall on these, and to look for that. I'm hoping someone might chip in on this and anything else I should look for. I'll probably get scope mounts, as these 72 yr. old eyes aren't so much anymore.

Welcome. never owned or used a 740, so can't comment or help. But a good look-over should tell you if there's an issue.
