I picked up an R51 in Smoke/Silver this weekend and was able to take it to range this morning. I REALLY like the way it shoots; very low recoil for very fast follow-up shots. The dimensions are perfect for how I plan to carry it and I really like the aesthetics on this pistol too.

I had a couple Failure to Feeds, but I think they were all from a full mag with one in the chamber (7+1). I will focus more on this next range trip and see if it only happening with certain ammo. If anyone has advice on this issue, please send. Worst case, I'll just carry it with one chambered and six in the mag. (I also think it may have just been one of the two mags having issues, so I'll verify that in my next range trip as well.)

I read online somewhere that the Gen 2's no longer have that issue of incorrectly inserting the slide release above the spring and your gun won't work if you do that wrong. Anyone know if this is true? If it's still an issue, anyway to check that you re-assembled it correctly; short of firing it?

Any recommendations on a IWB Kydex holster for Appendix Carry?

thanks!

It's pretty well known that there are many gun magazines of different makes that don't really like to have a fully loaded magazine and be seated with the slide closed.

I don't know if the R51 is one of those or not because I don't own one, but here's what I'd do if I weren't carrying it constantly.

I'd keep the magazine all the way full and the slide closed for a while before going shooting again and see if the spring doesn't loosen up a bit.
When people ignorant of guns make gun laws, you end up with ignorant gun laws.

Now I know they're not so ignorant and it's ATRRITION

Most people having this problem have removed the follower in the magazine and removed about 1/8" from the "legs" of the follower to remedy the 7+1 issue.

As John A. stated, many other guns / magazines have the "full+1" issue. I know some Bersa pistols and 1911's, with magazines from various manufacturers, that do have this problem. Solution...?; don't run them "full+1."

Gun is designed to feed from the magazine, not singly fed into the chamber. Also designed to be loaded from an open slide. Manual follows, if you MUST have that extra one round, which in my somewhat professional opinion as both a TN carry permit instructor and NRA Pistol instructor you don't really need .

1. Open slide and lock to rear.
2. Put one round in one magazine/Insert loaded magazine.
3. Charge pistol by retracting and releasing slide.
4. Drop magazine.
5. Insert full magazine.
6. Holster loaded pistol.
7. Fill/replenish second magazine and stow appropriately.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not too worried about it. If I can't get it run 100% with 7+1, I'll just carry it as 6+1. I REALLY like the way it shoots, very little recoil for such a small pistol. And, it is PERFECT size-wise for how I intend to carry it. I also like the additional safety provided by the grip safety. I also don't get those who malign the trigger, mine is VERY crisp. thanks again!

Thank you Sir! I have had my R51 about 5 days and was annoyed that I could not have a full magazine and be able to pull the slide back when my friend with the same model had no issues. I shaved 1/8 inch off and what do you know. Works like it is supposed to. :D
