New here, and have a few questions about a Model 31 I have.

The date code on the left side of the barrel reads LDRC. I know the L&D are the manufacturing date which it is Feb 1935. But, I don’t know what the R&C are.

The other thing is trying to figure out the grade. There is absolutely nothing written after the “model 31”. The stock and pump both have checkering but it does not have the spine on the barrel so I know it’s not trapper or competition. It does have full choke 30” barrel.

Any thoughts?

Can't find a reference to the R&C in my Blue Book Vaughn. See they made em from 1931-49 in different grades. yours sounds liike a standard grade without the engraved or embellished receiver. Barrels were 26-32 inches. Could be a 31-B Model though which had checkered pistol grip and forearm. Better wood too.

One of my favourites, "the ball bearing gun"
Found this cutaway which may be of interest, as an aficionado of levers, springs, cams and such things mechanical, I think that the M31 is one of the best. Predecessor to the venerable 870, they are just super slick, super smooth and really desirable shotguns
