Hello,
I was hoping to get some insight on a recoil pad for my dads 700. It is an older he purchased at least 28 years ago with an original wood stock. He is 63 now so I’m trying to get him something to ease the recoil quite a bit. The end plate is held on with 4 screws that don’t appear would line up with some of the recoil pads I am shopping for online. We are trying to have one permanently installed vs a slip on pad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have a suggestion for you. Before going through with the pad I would try that Reduced Recoil ammo from Remington. I tried a box for my 700 and there was less felt recoil for sure. Think bullet weight around 125 grain. Might do the trick

An excellent suggestion. Also there are slip-on recoil pads that will not change the original finish if the firearm is an heirloom or special piece. Otherwise a trip to the gunsmith is the first place to start: show him the gun, tell him (not trying to be sexist, or "her") what you need and let him show you some options. That will save marring up the stock finish by trying an amateur job. NRA Life, NAHC Life, Retired USN

I never thought about less recoil ammo. We purchased a slip on and one that is supposed to screw on replacing the butt plate. Haven’t tried either yet

Well if ya buy a box of the Reduced Recoil ammo and like the reduced kick take the pads back for a refund.
