I'm confused and could use a little expert opinion. I purchased my first 700, chambered in 270 Winchester, to replace my old deer rifle. It's in what appears to be an adl stock but has a hinged floor plate that appears, through careful examination of the milling, to have been a factory installation. I've looked up the manufacture date and was told that it is a July 75 or July 2005. I feel safe in assuming its a 2005. The bolt has bearings that look as though at one point it may have been jeweled like a bdl but it could just be wear that happened in an odd fashion. It's a very solid rifle and appears to have a very low round count. I'm quite happy with my decision to purchase it but would like a definitive answer on what exactly I have. Will submit photos as soon as possible to aid in identification. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry that I probably won't be able to help ID the gun, but I wanted to take a second to welcome you to the forum, and to subscribe to the topic so I can see the photos. Sounds like it's a rather unique gun.

Now I know they're not so ignorant and it's ATRRITION

If the hinged floorplate was factory installed, it's not an ADL. Of course a saavy user can easily swap bottom metal and pick up a BDL stock from any number of sources. It takes about $100 and 15 minutes to make an ADL become a BDL. Only true answer will come from Remington customer service if you call them with your serial #.

After calling the Remington customer service line I was advised that mine is, in fact, a 2005. They also told me that although it appears to be identical to an ADL stock it was apparently a cross between the ADL/BDL stock as it sports the slant cut forend like an ADL but has the Monte Carlo cheek rest like the BDL. Also, it did come factory with a hinged floor plate. She couldn't find it in any of the catalogs and could only tell me that the specific model was listed as being a Remington 700 Special Purpose and that it was most likely a distributor exclusive. MSRP at the time of manufacture was that of the BDL. So not a unicorn but nothing I'll commonly run across again.

Pics are in the link here. https://ibb.co/album/fKuFbF Nothing fancy but she's a sweet shooter. Took the game reaper mount and Athlon scope off my 30-06 and mounted it up for a few days to see what she could do and with two different loads from black hills she averaged a hair over moa after three five round groups of each. Probably could tighten it up a bit but it was in the 40's and I was cold, no wind though so I can't blame that lol. Pictures were taken yesterday, I reinstalled the mounts that came with it and the gr/Athlon have gone back on my 30-06.. although I figure I'll run the same scope/mount combo on this one as well.

Interesting Pappy. That stock is a dead ringer to my 1984 ADL 700. Mine sports a satin finish stock with the flared forend and cut checkering. Remington made chances to the ADL line back around 83-84 I read with slimmed down pistol grip, cut checkering, and satin stock finish. Great bluing on mine too I might add. Paid around $350 when I bought it new in 84.

It is very similar to the adl, the only notable difference other than the floor plate is that it has a raised comb with the Monte Carlo cheek rest, though I realize now that it isn't shown in the pictures.

Yep Monte Carlo on mine too. Sounds the same as mine but of course mine does not have a hinged floorplate being an ADL model. These older made 700s almost seem "custom" compared to many offerings these days but with the cost of black walnut and manufacturing costs these days no doubt we see some cutbacks. Best wishes and good luck with your 700
