In case anyone is interested thought I would mention that Savage is coming out with it's version of the A-17 chambered in 22 magnum. Black composite stock with satin blued 21 inch barrel. CCI will be making a 35 grain Gamepoint style bullet with a velocity of 2,100 F.P.S. Guns use that delayed blowback action for reliable feeding. Gives a suggested retail of $473 but probably can be had for less.

I should add it also is suppose to function with other brands of 22 mag ammo like the 17 and it better as who knows how hard any 22 mag will be often hard to find. I like the idea of having a carbine length like my R/A with the 18 inch tube and a regular size barrel myself. Savage may have a winner here with a couple of semis in 17 and now 22 magnum.

I bought into the .22 mag long arm market about 9 years ago.
I waited for the Ruger 10/22 magnum to work out the kinks, yet they discontinued that model, the Remington 597 just never spoke to me, the Cz 512 cost too much, as did the H&K 300, then along came a stainless steel pump carbine.
The Taurus 72 carbine Stainless construction for all weather performance. ~ overall length - 32 1/2 inches,16.5 inch barrel, ~ Light weight - 4 1/2 lbs. ~ 10 round tubular magazine. Superior accuracy, Caliber: .22 mag

Some day I might just snag a used A22 mag when one comes up for sale in these parts.

Well been very pleased with my Ruger American compact with the 18 inch barrel. Plenty of LOP after adding the standard stock module. Just recently added that Vortex Crossfire 2x7-32 scope for $129. Barrel is thicker than the standard 22 inch barrel and mine is accurate. My old Marlin does not see much use these days. Makes for a nice woods varmint gun with 40 grain CCI ammo.

I have the 597M, but it's as close to a rifle without a soul as you'll find. Yes, it's accurate, but it's plain, unadorned and Remington never embraced after aftermarket upgrades like the Lego-model 10/22. I'll hang onto it, as it may be part of the retirement hedge fund. But very little of it bespokes "love me".

HA! Think ya better hand onto it Scorpion. 22 mags out my way are tough to come by used. Matter of fact guns and ammo pretty limited at my LGS haunts. Best deal I got on 22 mag ammo was CCI H.P. 40 grain for $20.50 at wallyworld for the 100 round box. Afraid tougher times lie ahead. Best regards

Ammo isn't a problem for me. I was always of the type to go into a LGS looking for "this" do-dad and walk out with it plus 2 boxes of 22MAG or 22 WRF just to "round out a bill". I have enough 22LR to last 3 lifetimes. What I don't have is any faith in our political system.
