Hi all. Been reading up on glass bedding and have a kit on the way from Brownells. This will be my first try at it. Any Remington 783 specific advice out there? I'm also going to use any extra acraglass to fill the forend of the stock similar to one of the few other topics here. I have some glass micro balloons that I'll use to cut the weight in the forend... not in the action bedding though.

So from what I understand is I'll just take some material away near the pillars so the action just sits on them and makes no other stock contact. Any good transfer compound that I can use to make sure there is no contact with other parts of the stock? I've used lipstick (don't laugh, it really works) in the past, but I really should get something intended for the job.

Never did a glass bedding...let us know how it turns out.

Well my acuraglass came faster than expected. I have the rifle in the bedding compound and curing now. Not going to give too many details on the process as this was my first time bedding and I do not want to give any bad info.

One thing though that did help a lot was using some green masking tape , frog tape I think it is called, inside the stock action area. I used some layout fluid on the action and the green tape really showed where I needed more inleting. Far easier to see than the blue.


Hopefully in a day I'll be able to get the action free from the stock

Clear shoe polish is what I've been hearing on these Fors as a release agent !!! I used petroleum jelly on my action stock and one piece rail area of the action!! I just loved doing 4 with short strand fiberglass after I had torqued the action down and the glass turns trimmable just peal the tape back and the glass follows leaving a sharp almost invisible line you clean with a wood dowle! !! One mess and it's reinforced as well !! I waited two days for harding and it's strong as hell and cheap !!! Fill that recoil lug recess it will squeeze out of there and the action is almost locked with out bolts then you can clean around the barrel and lug 2 days latersorry it's a bit dusty!

I’m starting a pillar and bedding project on my 783. Does anyone have any after photos they’re willing to share of the 783 stock? I see most youtube videos recommend filling the lug and rear tang area on other guns. The rear tang on the 783 isn’t really recessed so it doesn’t seem practical, but maybe I’m missing something.

Also, has anyone put pillars on a Boyd’s stock before? What do you do with the plastic insert for the magazine retainer?
