Just like the villain in the Clint Eastwood movie ask "I gotta know did you fire 5 shots or 6 shots"
I got to know what's the big deal with keeping your serial # so secret ? Mine is 0006**0R51 Last edited by ToneDeath on Fri Apr 18, 2014 12:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.

As I have posted, mine is with Remington for repair.
0005???R51 Mine is more than 5k I'll continue the mystery. |

It would be good to know the status of your pistol as well as the serial number range.

OK, mine is 00064xx and other than the problems arising from the non SAMMI spec chamber, is running fine for now. Magazines may have a problem or two but it will take a few hundred more rounds to nail it down.

I used to feel the same way so I did some research and this is what I found. Some criminals have been caught using serial numbers they found online to sell non-existent guns on sites such as GunBroker. It has further been noted that someone meaning to make life hard for you could take your serial numbers and report them as stolen. Then if you ever got to make a transfer through an FFL, the gun would be flagged and you may have to go through an expensive and time consuming process to prove that it's really your gun. A gun's serial number is its identity. Your gun can have its identity stolen just like you can if you publish your SS# or a Credit Card#. The same caution is exercised in Motorcycle forums when posters well the vast majority will blur out the license plate when posting pictures of the ride. Far too easy to obtain the address where the bike is garaged. |

So this SN# check stopped quick. I'm sure many have been sold in the last six weeks. The highest sighting is in 6000 range. Just posting again to move it to the top. Would think the numbers are higher than the 10,000s now.

You can call Remington...they would be able to tell you exactly how many have been produced.

From what we are hearing, or should I say NOT hearing, from Remington lately, it would not be worth the time to call them about serial numbers. They act as if this R51 never existed on their website. Still no word on a "fix" for these guns and no hint of a recall.

The website still has the R51 in the top five news stories on the left hand corner of the front page and it's still on the cover of the catalog, showing in the center of the page, and prominently appearing in its pages. It was never in the "products" web page and the owner's manual was never posted online in the help documents to begin with which is why I scanned in the document and made it publicly available. It's not as if Remington removed any references from their website. When I contacted Remington Help requesting information on what the 2D Barcode on the side of the firearm was, or then I contacted them regarding when they would post an electronic version of the owner's manual, I did get replies both times. It took a while on the former and details were sparse, but it was confirmed that the matrix barcode is the SN of the firearm. The reply on the PDF of the owner's manual was that they would post it when the gun was officially released. This was after I had bought my R51. Playing it close to the vest is hurting them. It's burning their public Good Will off the balance sheet as if it were kindling wood. Peace favor your sword, Kirk http://cbd.atspace.com Martial Arts born in Western Civilization
