I was given a 552 brand new in early 60's by my dad. It had a tag on it "use Remington ammunition only" and I figured that was just a sales gimmick. Not so. Have fired thousands of rounds of Remington brand ammo with no problems over the years. Any other brand in long rifle will result in the cartridge head missing and the casing left like a tube in the chamber within 1 to 3 rounds. Dangerous gas and debris leaving out the ejection port, not to mention your ears ringing. Any brand short seems to work ok, but not long rifle. This started from day one. I would like to fix this if possible for my grand kid but I want it safe. Could headspace be the problem and if so would a new bolt be the cure? I think Remington ammo must have a thicker gauge brass for their .22 ammo.l

Its 2022.
Did you ever figure out what the issue was and how it was fixed?
