R51 line shutting down ????

AFAIK, the R51 line is in Clintonville, SC, not Graves County, KY.

There's a lot of SPECULATION as to what's going on. The top contenders are:

• Reduced demand for products specifically made in Graves
• Bad corporate management
• Preparation to move Graves production to the Alabama plant, which is cheaper to operate due to a sweetheart tax deal

Now that doesn't surprise me at all. I sent my R51 in over a month ago and I am still waiting for it to be fixed. It would'nt surprise me to see them shut down the line till they fix all the design flaws. Face it ... the original is a total piece of crap! If I had to do it over I would have never purchased the weapon. As soon as I get it back I am going to sell it. But .. hey ... that is my opinion ... for what it is worth!

After it being there several weeks and being told AT LEAST 4-6 weeks longer. I asked for it back, traded it (with the LGS aware of its issues) and bought a S&W Shield 9.....the difference is night and day.

Looks like we might have another delay getting our R51 pistols repaired. The article in the link below says the Para plant is being consolidated and moved to Alabama.

FACT #1 : Remington is closing a number of plants around the country.

The Remington plants at Elizabethtown, West Jordan, Kalispell, Kennesaw, Lawrenceville, St. Cloudand and Pineville are closing.

FACT #2: Closed plant products lines are being consolidated at the new Huntsville, AL plant.

Earlier this year Remington opened a new plant in Huntsville, Alabama. The 500,000 square foot facility is the equivalent of 25% of the total of Remington’s pre-Huntsville 2.1 million square feet of production space.

FACT #3: Also being moved are the Bushmaster and Remington’s 1911 product lines.

The Bushmaster Firearms International (BFI) and Remington R1 1911 product lines are also being moved from Remington’s Ilion, NY facility.

Bushmaster was originally moved from Windham, Maine to the Ilion facility in 2011.

We are working hard to retain as many people from the affected facilities as possible."

I always associated the Remington name with reliable quality firearms like my 1100, well and really shinny stocks. When dealers discourage sales of Remington R51 pistols, what is a customer going to think of their other products?

I really hope they get their collective act together and resolve the R51 issue and the 700 trigger issue. I have two firearms that I paid for and cannot use, one is back with Remington and the other sits waiting to be returned. Remington or the holding company that owns them decided that to buy other companies, cut costs/quality/personnel and move them around, all to make their stock holders happy. I have no problem whatever making stock holders happy. IMO the stockholders going to be very unhappy further down the line when these measures end up hurting sales and undermining the reputation of Remington.
