Hi, new member here. Wife and I both are newer owners of used 870 Wingmasters, her's a nice old Std 20 with a 24" slug barrel and a "hard to find" 28" mod vr. Mine is a well used 12, again with both barrels. I intended for us to use them for Trap and 3 gun when we bought them last winter. However, she has not shown much 3 gun interest, and her 870 is really to pristine to subject it to that game anyway. No problem with mine. I did however, just purchase a nice used 1100 Trap, on the net, from what I can determine is 60's or 70's vintage for myself for a Trap gun. Absolutely georgeous wood and bluing, shiny bore, but, completely filthy on the inside. Spent 4 hrs cleaning before I fired it a couple of days ago. Runs Estate #8 1oz just fine so I guess it's good to go and I was lucky there. Not sure if the PO had ever dissasembled it. Will save the 870 for 3 gun, it was just beating the crap out of me in Trap.
Looking forward to springtime!

ps: the serial # on the 1100 is 494203V and it has a 30" VR barrel with a Colonial IC screw in choke. My thinking is that if I am correct on the vintage of the shotgun, that the barrel is either not original, or has been modified to accept the Colonial chokes. It's a finer thread than Remmington.
Any help there is appreciated.
Thanks,
JD

Welcome from MI.

My dad has a similar 1100 from the late 70's, it had a 30" barrel with fixed full choke that he used for duck hunting.

There are several places that will drill and tap barrels for choke tubes. Depending the gunsmith/machinist used you can get any number or factory or other types of tubes installed. My guess is that the previous owner had the barrel fitted for tubes rather than buying a new barrel for whatever he interned to use it for. It's not uncommon to see this done to older guns. It's usually cheaper than buying new barrels.

If you run into cycling issue with that gun check the gas seals. These are just o-rings that contain the gasses used to cycle the gun. Over time they will dry out, crack and just fall apart. They are easily replaced and can bring new life back to the gun.

The 1100 is a nice gun.

Thanks for your input MikeD.
I did change out the o-ring before firing, Just wanted to be sure everything needed done, was done.
Shre seems better than the 870 in the recoil, more like the wifes 870 20ga.
