Anyone heard or seen anything about the RP9? I try to keep up on Remington's handguns, but this one got by me until this morning. Thoughts, anyone?

Just read up on it...
18+1 capacity... 4.5 inch barrel... polymer frame... and blade in trigger setup. I'll reserve judgment until I fire one... |

Me, too, Kevin. I figured the Forum here will be the wellspring of any revelations ad developments.

I have one and it seems to work just fine. It can be a bit baulky when attempting to seperate the slide from the frame, but when alined correctly, the slide comes right off. There is a sharp edge on the right corner of the trigger and the right edge of the trigger guard that will be getting some emory board attention. No big deal, just part of individualizing the pistol. I put a "Tuff1" silicon sleeve on the grip decorated with skulls in mottled black and green, that aids in retention and covers the overly large "R" prominent on the grip. It gives the pistol some character.
Functionally, had a stovepipe and two FTF occurrences during the first 100 rounds. Not unexpected on a new pistol. Accuracy was good. Used an NRA 50 foot pistol target set at 25 yards and kept all rounds, but two in the black. The two, not in the black were my fault. Failure to follow through and a flinch, for no reason. Disassembled, cleaned and lubed before and after the range and found no evidence of unusual wear. Magazine tolerances are very tight, but when a round did not want to load, simply tapped the rear of the magazine on a hard surface and was able to load all 18 rounds in every magazine. Did not experiance rounds popping out of the magazine when putting the slide in battery. When slamming the magazine home in the grip the slide would release and load the pistol, a feature I liked for a potential duty sidearm. Purchased from Palmetto State Armory for $249.99 plus a $50.00 factory rebate and bought 5 extra factory mags for $14.50 each. I thought that was an excellant price to see what all the fuss was about. I personally think that the fellow on the MAC blog is getting entirely to much mileage out of his somewhat biased first review. That combined with a whole lot of "wanna-be" commentators and opinionated folks, who have never touched an RP9, are making a big deal out of a less than unbiased review. So far I am not unhappy with the purchase and will update after a few more range sessions. |
