Please specify: Gun vise for servicing & maintenance, rifle, pistol, universal combination.... or one for light maintenance and for a shooting platform? Some of these things can be simply made in your own shop/garage.

Rick,
i've been thinking that for light work/maintenance.

Go to Midway.com and look at Gunsmithing Supplies, Gunsmithing Tools, Bench Vises and Clamps. MTM makes some economical, yet pretty good plastic rifle/shotgun holders and some that serve as a bench rest also for a 2 or 3 '$20 bills'. Get your Norma TAC-22s there too and combine to save some shipping bucks. Shop around while you're there. They have lots of good stuff.

That's a great price and limit 30. That's 1500 rounds and quite a generous limit. Might try them next time. Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately since the Safe Act, we can not have ammo shipped to us here in New York State. Having a number of .22s (Browning Buckmark, Model 41 S&W, Model 17 K22 Masterpiece S&W, High Standard Supermatic Citation, Anshutz, Henry Golden Boy and older Mossberg and Remington Target .22s, I like to keep a reasonable supply. I do not consider myself a hoarder by any means and buy .22s now to replace what I shoot. I keep about 4,000 rounds on hand.

I slep back and forth from eastern Long Island to New York city at least once a week and do what I call my "Ammo Crawl".

Start off at Amagansett Hardware in Amagansett, New York followed by a trip to the True Value Hardware store in Hampton Bays. It I then off toe Riverhead, where I stop at Edwards (LGS), Dicks, Sports Authority and Walmart and then on the balance of my trip into Manhattan it is 4 more Walmart's, Campground (LGS) and Coliseum Arms.

On Monday's and Tuesday's I am a flight instructor up in Orange County New York, so that means a stop at both Davis's Sporting Goods, one more LGS and the Gander Mountain.

Nothing is much of the way of my drive and I have yet to come up empty handed. When my inventory is good, what I get goes to friends at our local club (at my cost) to help out.

Wow, Bob, that is so sad having to do the "ammo crawl". I can't imagine not having the freedom to buy what I want and having it delivered to my door if I want to. Does this "SAFE Act" limit you to a specific maximum quantity you can buy with each individual purchase?

I just don't get it. Each state has its restrictions on an amended right that stemmed from the United States Constitution, the Right to Bear Arms, and, ammunition shouldn't have such stipulations in possession and acquisition that each state imposes upon it. It seems it should have more Federal control than individual regions, states, counties, and cities. I would leave an area that puts such heavy restrictions & limits on such a satisfying sport as shooting. It's an American sport and should be governed the same in every state of these "UNITED STATES".

We are not limited on how much ammo we can buy, though the dealer has to register if you buy over some quantity. Not sure what that quantity is, but I have bought as much at 10 flats (2500 total) shotgun shells at a time. Most of the stores though will limit you on .22s. Some more than others.

I also can buy ammo in Pennsylvania as there is reciprocity between our states.

We do bulk buys from CAC Associates in PA and they ship to a LGS who doesn't charge us much to run it through his books. We get pallet load quantities at very good prices, probably straight wholesale, buy rim fire are usually limited, though I did get quite a few match grade 22s in our last shipment.

Looks like the thread started off asking about a Gun Vise that was not expensive. I recently purchased the Tipon deluxe one that was on opticsplanet for about $140.00, for $69.00 on sale from MidwayUSA.

dbabo, did you ever come up with a vise/shooting platform? It's been a couple of months now... just wondering.
