Disassembled my 870 for the first time after watching a few how-to videos on the internet and ended up with an extra spring. Referred to the parts breakdown on Remington.com and my owners manual. My 870 has the factory 2 round mag extension. Is this supposed to have a detent? I think this may be the detent spring but did not see the plunger fall out. Hopefully it's not out of the trigger plate as this was a used 870. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Without pictures this is hopeless. If you have the green plastic monster in the end of the magazine there is no detent. If it is a detent model and the detent came out you should have a hole in the barrel ting with nothing in it.
What could have happened... did.

Can't upload pics from my iPhone for some reason. It doesn't have the green monster (round limiter?) in the tube. There is a hole in the barrel tang and nothing in it. Looks like it's time for a parts order from Remington again. Thanks Virginian

I see how that would create confusion. Thanks Shooter. I'll try and be more aware when titling threads.

Seems that the 870 express with the factory 2 round magazine extension relies on the barrel clamp to keep things together and not a detent ball and spring. I have an extra spring nonetheless. Gun operates fine. Nothing seems to be missing. Dumb luck? Lol
