Hello all, I was wondering if there were any American Skeet shooters around?

I regularly shoot skeet, trap and sporting clays but it is usually just for fun. What school in Texas did you shoot for? I went to Texas A&M for Veterinary school. Congratulations on your placing at nationals!

I am shooting for a little private college called Schreiner University. I've got only one more year left of collegiate competition

Congrats! I normally just shoot trap and skeet for fun, I haven't really got into competition. I'm not at that level yet.

Once you got the mechanics down it is simply a game of how mentally tough you are... which is my weakness haha Pack LaRue

I shoot both American and International Skeet. I have been focusing on International a bit more recently and have almost been completely consumed by it. American is great fun and a great change of pace but international is a challenge. I have not competed yet and only go for fun since I've only been shooting for roughly 6-7 months. Perhaps, I will enter competitions when I feel a bit more comfortable but im still trying to master all of the small and critical mechanics.

Whats the difference between the two...American and International !?
|
|
There are a few factors that seperate American from International.
They have a different sequence of shots from each spot. American- 1-High/Low singles + double. 2-High/low singles + double. 3-High/low singles. 4-High/low singles. 5-High/low singles. 6-High/low singles + double. 7-high/low singles + double. 8-High/low singles. International- 1-High single + double. 2-High single + double. 3- High single + double. 4-High/Low singles + double (start w/ high first) + double (start w/ low first). 5- Low single + double. 6-Low single + double. 7-Double. 8-High/low singles. The size of the clays differ. American clays are thinner and easier to break than international clays. The fly distance - American- Clays fly 60yards. International- Clays fly 70 yards. This affects the overral SPEED of the clay as well. If im not mistake I think there's about a 20mph difference in speed of the clay. You have to LOW MOUNT for international. There COULD also be a DELAY from when you call for the bird. It could range from being dispensed IMMEDIATELY to 3-4 second delay. Thats about all I can think of off the top of my head. ( International humbles you if you are switching from American) Goodluck! -Greg Remington 1100 Sporting 12GA

I shoot registered American Skeet but only practive International. The springs on the traps are heavier and we do not really set up for true International at my home club.
We do have one of only Two bunker trap set ups in all or New York State and one of the members is on the Canadian Olympic Team while another is on a collegiate team as well as trying out for the Olympics. Very demanding of the shooter as well as of the shotgun. Bob Bob Kittine
