Ejection question

When ejecting shell's manually from my 11-87 I have to push the carrier release every time to get it to cycle is this normal?

Yes, that is normal operation for 1100s/11-87s, until very recently. If you are really quick you may be able to jerk and release fast enough, but I can only do it about 60% of the time when I try after 50+ years of practice. If one has a slightly bent carrier latch, it will often do it then, too. The new 1100s have a finger added to the carrier that interacts with the carrier latch that allows you to cycle shells thru by working the bolt back and forth. I haven't looked at a new 11-87 to see if they have the same thing, but I suspect they do. I have never found it a hindrance the old way.
