Been looking around the stores and online and it's nice to finally see some 300 win mag on the shelf. Didn't get a chance to go hunting at all this season but well I have time to start practicing some long distance shooting till the next one. Has anyone else had a problem the past couple of years finding 300 win mag.

Not a problem in Pennsylvania...see it all the time at Dicks Sporting Goods and local gun shops.

I'm a huge fan of this round I find better results than the 30-06 when it comes to larger game especially the Oryx back home. I'm happy to have a good stock of it in my safe. But for some reason they stopped carrying it at the Sports Authority here ( no Cabelas, Gander, Sportsmans, ect.) out here in Hawaii. Some of the local shops have it. But I had someone from back home bring me some out when they came to visit.... Needless to say I'm a happy camper. Also got to throw on a new wood stock my 700 300win mag.

Hawaii...!? Nice...
Dicks SG is a few miles down the road from me...know the guys behind the counter by their first names. Old neighborhood is 10 miles away...both the local guns shops also know me real well, as I stop in quite often just to shoot the breeze and see what new firearms I can handle. Cabela's is a ride ( Hamburg, PA )...but worth the trip every 3 months or so. MidwayUSA, GanderMt, BassPro, and Sportman's Guide are mostly online shopping destinations...and I always get their catalogs in the mail as well as email specials. Sports Authority in my area closed awhile ago... Don't have a need for the .300 win mag...as I don't own a platform for it. My Remington Model 700BDL is chambered for 7mm Rem Mag...and I also own a Remington Model 7600 chambered in 30.06 Springfield. Then there's my favorite brush gun...a Winchester Model 1894 in .30WCF |

That is a nice Bush gun the lever that I have is Henry 45-70 7mm is a hard hitting round too. One of my next ones... Have it on the list but I want to find it in the cdl. I'm shooting a 180 grain with the 300 now I really don't like shooting anything smaller. Well there is a different round for a different job but I like the heavy calibers. Have to get me a .243 as well so the old lady can shoot with me.

JAC, it sure would be nice to live in Hawaii! Especially compared to how it feels in Indiana right now. Sounds like you really like the .300 Win Mag...don't blame you. It's like the .30-06 on steroids.
Here in Indiana, we have quite a bit of .300 Winchester Magnum on the shelves. I have only shot one .300 Win Mag...it was a Ruger #1. Really belted the crap out of my shoulder! Say, is there many ranges there where you live? I have heard Hawaii is not all that gun friendly. Just curious. What would you hunt there with a .300 Win Mag? Again, just curious. Have a good one! ![]() USMC 83' - 87'

I'm just working here for the past couple of years.... Hawaii is definitely not firearm friendly the ranges have many restrictions much more just owning here. There is a lot of people here that are trying to make things better but it's really difficult. I'd much rather be home the hunting is better and I miss the cold seasons. I'm originally from New Mexico so the is everything from Bear, Elk, and Oryx that's what the 300 win is for an Oryx a 30.06 at 200 yds will not do the job with one shot.

My buddy is from Indiana and he was telling me that you guys have restrictions on rifle hunting there but I was watching cam and company the other day and he saying that could change next year.

This is true. It still isn't a real deal yet, but if they are going to do it, it will be soon. I'm kinda mixed on this myself. I would love to use my 700 in .30-06 for Whitetail, but it is very flat here, and a bullet from a high power would go a long ways before hitting the ground. We will see. USMC 83' - 87'

I could see that a elevated blind or stand could remedy that.

.300 WinMag is a really potent cartridge. You guys can have it.
