Hi all,

Thanks for letting me join the forum :)

I am from South Africa, currently a student at university. I am doing a bachelors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I grew up hunting and shooting and like all things that go bang.

When I turned 21 I bought a Glock 23 and a Remington SPS Tactical AAC-SD in .308 with the help of my father. The rifle was my 21st birthday present. All our other hunting rifles in the family is also in .308, I guess we just like the caliber :)

In SA we can only get a firearm license when we are 21 and when we have done the prescribed competency course and tests. Once that is done we apply to the government for final competency and if all OK, we are declared competent to own a firearm from the government's perspective. Then we can apply for a firearm license. To do this we may purchase a firearm, but it remains with the dealer. Then we get the serial number and apply at our local police station with the designated firearms officer. The application takes about 3 months if all goes well. So not a quick and easy process, but not difficult either.

On my rifle I have a Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x50mm scope with a Harris swivel bi-pod. The Hogue overmould stock was flexing and touching my barrel. I then had a gunsmith stiffen up the stock for me with a metal rod and bedding compound and at the same time bedded the action while free-floating the barrel. He also cut a new crown onto the barrel at a different angle. After this the rifle started to group nicely and shoot consistently. I am currently playing with Lapua Scenars 167gr and am close to getting clover hole groupings. Yes, I reload. I enjoy reloading a lot, especially load development.

I have been doing mainly just load development for a year now and haven't gotten around to shooting beyond 100/200m yet. I am wishing to start shooting out to 600m or so and have decided to join another forum that has more of an international database of members and to see what I can learn from here.

Thanks for having me, I am hoping to see you guys in the forum once I have gotten through scouring all the old content ;)

Welcome from MI
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.-Ronald Reagan

I haven't gotten around to looking around in the forum yet; am smack in the middle of exams right now and finish on in a week or two's time. So then I will have plenty of time on my hands :)
