Over/Under Recoil-operated Trigger Re-Set

I picked up your basic 12-GA o/u shotgun yesterday, made by Kofs of Turkey. Not a bad piece, certainly not a Kreighoff either. Last night I tried to shoot a round of trap with it, and it was a massive fail. You shoot the top barrel, eject a shell, reload and chamber and "sometimes" the trigger doesn't reset. Of course you don't know until you swing on a clay and there's no trigger pull.

The action is tight, because it's new. I'm wondering if closing the action doesn't generate enough force to reset the trigger because it closes slow, not snappy. You know how you see these guys flip the barrels up to close their o/u actions one-handed? Not mine, couldn't be done. A good cleaning and lube of the action is in order. As well as cycling it a few thousand times.

Other thoughts?

I recommend just shooting it a while and see how it wears in. I'm not sure about where the trigger isn't resetting though. That's something you'll have to watch for. If it continues, you may need to call ATI about it (assuming that ati imported it--I see they are the current importer).

My O/U doesn't swing closed either. Takes both hands. But I do it forcefully.

Most of my break actions won't just swing closed. Other than a few that I have used A LOT.

If I recall, when I closed it "with authority" the trigger resets fine. Perhaps the issue is in there. However I do think some lube and a cleaning is in order.

And a LOT of cycling back and forth.

It certainly won't hurt it.

Well I have not gone to the range, but as long as I close the action "with authority" the triggers reset fine on snap caps. If I gently close it, I can get it to repeat the poor service of the last range moment. I sprayed the internals liberally with lube, touched a polishing pad to the lugs, lubed it with a good grease on the lugs, and cycled it a bit back and forth. We'll re-try it at the next range moment.

And we'll quit handling it in a girly fashion.
