The ability to shoot 22 Short and 22 Long is becoming nothing of a selling point anymore based on a complete lack of availability of that ammo. I have a box of LONG somewhere, and haven't seen SHORT in years. Most anybody younger than 40 won't even know what they were. And considering that you can't find LONG RIFLE most of the time either..... I have a mint 552 for sale near me but can't justify another Remmie 22 right now, since I have 582, Nylon 66, Model 5 and several other 22's.

I have a local gun shop that stocks .22 short and .22 long...tho I do realize that is not the norm for most.

My LGS used to occasionally have LONGS, once in awhile SHORTS, but that was years ago, even before the craziness.

My Dad gave me one of these when I was a child. It is extremely accurate. It is in my safe without a scratch on it. I will never sell it. Dad told us that turtles were ruining our lake by eating fish eggs, so he commissioned my brother and myself to get rid of the turtles. I was able to shoot turtle's heads off, when they came up for air, at about 50 yards with this rifle. My brother was almost as good, I do not recall which rifle he had. I do know that every long gun Dad bought us was a Remington, except the shotgun he gave me when I was 10. When I was 12 my brother got the .410 Winchester pump, and I got a brand new Remington 20 ga. semi-auto. How I loved that gun, it was stolen in a burglary to our farm house. I still miss it to this day. Now I have an 1100 an 870, and a 597 in addition to my 552 BDL. I love Remington guns.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I hope to gain a good deal of wisdom here at the forum. I have a question concerning a proof mark on a Speedmaster 552 I picked up recently. While trying to determine the gun's age by proof mark, I found the gun has strange marks.

There are two rows of marks. They are what looks like:
Top row - looks like a waffenmark with a "N" in the feet, shield with cross hatch (Munich) shield with "79"
Second row - "bills head??", "RQ", "93"

It doesn't appear the original Mark was ground off as the matching barrel striations are evident surrounding the marks. Any help is appreciated.t

Things as they always do bounce back. 22LR is in plentiful supply here (altho' stupidity reigns still) and I've stocked up on 22 Longs and even scored some 22 Shorts. I would like to score a LOT more 22 Short just for stock.
