I have 552 that I bought new in 1984 and it has the long/high capacity magazine tube. Does anyone know what year they cut the magazine tube shorter/lower capacity?

How much shorter is yours? I can't remember the year of mine offhand but it'll fit about 12-12 LR's and almost 17 Shorts.

My 1984 isn't short. Tube goes to end of barrel. I know Marlin cut their tube capacity in 1992 due to some stupid law in NJ. I'm trying to find out what year Remington shortened their tubes.

This is the short tube version but I don't know what year it was made.

Interesting mostly because Remington's current production rifle shows the longer magazine tube. Either they're using older graphics, or maybe the change was period-specific and they've gone back again. I'll have to look at mine.

Or perhaps it's not the magazine tube, but the barrel length that has changed? Website says this is a 21" barrel.

Scorpion8, you're correct. Remington done like Marlin and shortened the barrel to look better with the shorter magazine tube. But my question still remains unanswered. LOL

Except the question is now, when did they shorten the barrel?
