My new Pro Varmint stock (walnut) finally came today, along with a Weaver scope base. Oddly, my factory bolts are too long, or it should have stated you need to purchase (from third party) the metal inserts for a different (from my) 597. It was stated for a different model stock but not the Pro Varmint the inserts are needed but they don't sell them. Some dirt in the finish and mismatched mill work at the fore end of the stock. Other than that I'm tickled. New scope and bipod mounted, it's off to the range tomorrow. Taking lots of ammo this time. If I can figure out how to reduce the size of my photos, I'll post up a pic or two.

Boyd's. Kind of wish now I'd checked the "unfinished" box but I didn't see why it should cost more for that option, I can refinish it when the weather dries out. Debating whether or not to go to the range, light rain right now, guess I'm getting old.

Interesting day at the range yesterday. I tried some different ammo, 36gr., 40gr. HP and 40gr. LRN. So far the Remington Thunderbolts at 40'gr. seems to be the most accurate, I'll try some standard velocity CCI and the high velocity's next time. OK, tried the cell phone cam, I'm not thrilled about the quality...
