Remington 597 Jamming issues

I bought a used 597, and I can't fire three rounds without getting a jam...seems like a round gets caught on the feed ramp causing the round to bend almost in half. Anyone ever experienced this before? If so, what can I do to fix it? Thanks in advance!

The 597 is chronic for issues. Some have one's that cycle just fine and others want to toss 'em in the trash.

I was about to toss mine after years of problems. But I finally bought different ammo (it began jamming about 200 rounds into a brick of Rem Thunderbolts) and it has cycled over 300 rounds without a single hiccup so far. I also stripped it down for a good cleaning and reoiling multiple times. SO I'd clean and oil and if it still jams, try different ammo. I bought Federal CHP's and I've heard that CCI is decent.

Good luck.

Have you taken it down for a good cleaning even the inside of the mag?

Change brands of ammo in addition to proper cleaning and lubing. I was about to toss my 597 for jamming and finally tried different ammo. It now runs like a clock.

I installed a VQ extractor in mine, and turned the magazine springs to orient the mag follower to point the bullet head up ever so slightly to aid in getting it up the feed ramp, As soon as I started shooting the Remington Goldens and the Federal Standards that are usually crappy in this rifle without one FTE or FTF in 400/450 rounds I knew it was a very good fix.

The Voltquartsen Extractor was all I needed to solve my FTF and FTE probs. I previously had cleaned all the magazines and made sure I had the second and latest updated magazine from Rem.
It now shoots great with no probs.
I have a synthetic stock with 20" barrel. Great for teaching all the young kids in the family!
