I wouldnt say Im a fan.
Like Chevy, Ford or John Deer vs. CASE, if it does the job I task it with and performs with the least ammount of hassles I have a smattering of Remingtons.
Some that work well and some that dont.
OTZ Alaska is one location that will thin out marginal firearms.

Well, it's a party of two then! Yea, this is rough country that sneers at most firearms lubes and greases.

Coworker related today he fixed his model 700 synthetic stock using JB Weld.
They tested it first before stocking the rifle.
He had lent the rifle out to relatives that went wood cutting.
Two loading logs didnt do a good job of placing the rifle far enough away from loading logs and one rolled off the sled up against the rifle breaking it at the wrist.
The repair withstood one the guys stepping on the stock propped over steps and it didnt break.
He was happy the old 700 is up and running.

I wish the two 522 vipers I have issues with were as easy to fix.

I love hunting with the locals, as you see some real MacGyver fixes that work. I bought a well-used 700 .22-250 off a Native seal hunter from Hoonah that looked like it had endured many toss-and-miss celebrations, but the metal was fine. Folks think only in terms of big city but even here we have no 'smith, so you learn to do things by yourself, sometimes with inadequate tools. But ya gotta get the job done.

The elderly fellow that complained his rifle made a loud noise, kicked really hard and the cases extracted hard.
He brought in his rifle (gift from kids) to have a stuck case removed.
The local gunsmith (1992) related the problem was the cartridges he was using were incorrect.
The 70ish year old grandfather had received a gift rifle from his grandchildren.
One saw a Shotgun News Ad for a rebarrled military 98 Mauser in 30-06 with fancy replacement stocks.
The company doing the work lightly stamped the caliber in tiny numerals on the Barrel shank but for old farts that dont have bifocals couldt tell it was there.
The old guy knew Mausers only Shot 8x57 Mauser and that was what he was shooting out of his particular rifle.
The OTZ gunsmith made sure to Stamp the caliber where fuzzy seeing Gramps could make out the caliber.

Should have made it into an 8mm-06. Awesome under-appreciated round.

Well some the better Remington models will have a great aftermarket parts support.
Kinda like the guys that fix up the Willys Wagons as mudder trucks.

Yea, somebody somewhere bought all the parts warehouses, maybe even Numrich. Parts should be available (someday). I hope somebody keeps the brand alive like Winchester-USRAC-FN.
