Coronavirus (COVID-19) Thread

We have a very active virus thread going on at Mossberg Owners. It runs the gamut of relevant topics. Want to talk or vent about what's happening in your neck of the woods? Preps you've made for such an event? Are you concerned about family and loved ones? Or you just wanna bitch about dumb people hoarding or the gubment response? This is the thread.

I'll go first. I'd consider myself prepper-lite...lol. So we have ample supplies and haven't been panicked. I watch and read the news pretty regularly and saw this coming and starting adding supplies in late January. Added some extra dry and canned goods as well as some ammo for my Beretta PCC and 870. You can never have enough ammo right?

My old Dad lives with us, so his health is a big concern for us and that he not be infected. He's a lifelong smoker, and his health is declining. This virus would likely be a death sentence for him. We take all appropriate precautions depending on the circumstance. So, when we have to go to the grocery store or some public indoor space...it's masks and gloves for us.

Don't care what anybody thinks or what some fat cat doctor has to say about it either. I'm trained in the use of respirators and full HazMat PPE...I know they work and I HATE being lied to. We have PPE and will use it accordingly. I won't let some doctor (read: politician) that has squandered my tax money on office renovations and vacations shame me into jeopardizing the health of my family.

So, what about you?

I found it hilarious how quickly ammo flew off the shelves for a health-crisis. Toilet paper? Okay, most recent diseases and meds cause massive anal leakage. Hand sanitizer? Okay, I get it. But ammo? Luckily to the wife's one-time chagrin and now-applaud, ammo is not something we're short of. I fall into the "refuse to be scared" group. I'm staying home but only because I've had a run of bronchitis since last fall and nobody can tell the difference between this cough and that. But working from home is getting old. I'll probably go back in next week and since the office looks like a barren wasteland it should be just as safe there as anywhere else. My wife made masks and I always forget mine. I play it smart, don't hug strangers, wash my hands, use hand sanitizer, and have been a social-distance convert since I was 4. But there's more to laugh about out there now. Folks with masks on, around their chin with their nose uncovered. Neighbors who peek out of doors when you deliver the FEDEX package that was wrongly delivered to your house. I shipped my sister some Alaska-roasted coffee that they love an they left the package outside on their doorstep for 15 days. I love it!

I don't think anyone understands the run on a$$wipe! Lol!

I agree, no need for fear but a little caution goes a long way right now. Most of us types were born for social distancing soooo yeah, no problem there. Could keep this up the rest of my life and be perfectly happy!

Ammo & firearms sales up here always go with the trend south of the line. But, not usually for the same reasons. We usually start buying because we know supplies will not be replenished for quite sometime after panic buying down south. We often won't get re-supplied until after our southern brothers do. So, I learned my lesson after the run up to the 2012 presidential election and made sure when supplies came back to stock up. It wasn't until nearly 2014 that any decent 22LR could be found except in little dribs and drabs. Generally hunting calibers were available-ish but defensive ammo was a nowhere.

Just wondering how everyone is fairing, especially after Christmas? The whole social distancing thing really isn't an issue for us in our house; but I have to admit the trips to the stores with masks and gloves and folks that just don't have any consideration for anyone else is wearing a bit thin.

Things are far worse now than when this thread started.

I haven't worked since March 26th...my work often involves travel with other people and periodic flying. I just can't risk spending hours and hours in close quarters with co-workers or strangers and feel that I'm doing right by my ol' Dad. We are fortunate to not be hurting financially. I've kept busy with yard chores and my motorcycle during the nicer weather and I've taken on some home improvement projects and a little gun refinishing as the fall and winter have arrived.

We still haven't run out of ammo yet. I actually bought a few more ammo cans as a Christmas gift to myself in order to hold what I've been picking up.

How about you?

I certainly feel for the small businesses. Life is pretty much normal here, albeit with masks-on-all, but most businesses are running again. I know other places like Anchorage, AK where they've had restaurant wars over 25% seating, take-out only, crowds limited to 6 and a host of other zany ideas. The only constant in the whole mess is that the emergency powers to restrict anything you do don't seem to be falling or ending. Even if that thing has nothing to do with health. I don't get any of the decisions (gyms can be open with heavy breathing and sweating, community showers) but we stay home from our cubicle life like the plague had settled in. Go figure.

We've got about the same here, contradictory rules...you can go to the gym, a bar or a restaurant but you can't go to church or gatherings of any kind. The truth is though, that MOST people are going to work as "usual"...despite all the talk of working from home. It's the truckers, warehousing, hospitality and various service industries and the construction business that keep things going around like always.

I'm still hopeful that things will eventually return to normal and not a "new normal". Also hoping that along with the vaccinations bringing the virus to heel in the coming months that restrictions / public health orders will also be rescinded in kind. If not, then it is time to get mad and start making a stink.

SO far that has me laughing. The same people praying for a corona virus vaccine to make it all go away are many of the same folks who refused to have their kids vaccinated for polio, smallpox, and many other diseases that we had all but eradicated until the do-gooders decided it was against their choice. If they can't force kids to get a vaccine before school so they don't spread polio, then they can't force people to get this vaccine before they come back to work. So far of the dozen folks I've queries, including the wife and myself, no one is planning to get the shot(s). Perhaps Covid-19 was Zombie Phase 1, and you get the shot to connect the dots and have Zombie Phase II. Such a short test span -- they have no idea what the true long term effects of this series of vaccines will do.

That's terribly hypocritical of them isn't it? LOL! But that's par for the course these days. Less and less makes sense anymore.

That's very true, we were just talking about the small vaccine trial groups tonight at dinner and the relatively short window the trials were all conducted in.

We can only hope that some of Darwin's theory of natural selection will thin the herd a little! However, after having put so much on hold this last year I'm leaning towards taking the vaccine so I can get back to work. I won't say I don't feel a certain amount of hesitation though.

I feel for anybody who "has to" take the shots. We've had that discussion at work, perhaps only letting those back in that have had the shot. But if it's not mandated in law, it'll never fly. And any law will fly as far as the lawyers can shark feed upon it. I don't discourage or encourage anyone, this (to me) will go down as the Age of Reason-lost. I have two small medical procedures coming up, one is a tooth cavity and one is a small dot to be removed. Only one requires a negative Covid test before going under the knife. Where is the consistency in that?

Reason has been lost, chucked aside and abandoned.

I haven't heard if taking the vaccine will be mandatory for certain things...yet. However, my job requires sharing small spaces at times and travel, even air travel. At this stage I just can't see how I could reasonably return to regular duties without being vaccinated. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes mandatory for air travel at some point.

I think inconsistency is the new consistency...consistently inconsistent.

Indeed one only needs to flick on the news or pick up a paper to witness the abandonment of reason.

What I foresee isn't any "requirement" of ours, but more like you have to have a vaccination to enter Canada, or to fly anywhere that lands in another country, to take a cruise, or even perhaps to enter the Superdome for a game. Ways to get around the mandates that actually become mandates.

Yeah Canada is requiring a negative Covid test (even of citizens) before being allowed back in the country. That doesn't apply to essential workers though. We had a couple illustrious politicians bypass the rules during the Christmas holidays by landing in the US and then using their gubment credentials to cross at a land border.

This is also of course after telling the public to avoid unnecessary travel and then going on vacation themselves...bloody hypocrites.

"Rules for thee, but not for me"
