Remington Model 12c ???

Just picked up a Remington 12c and hoping someone can confirm or correct what I think I know.

From what I've read, Remington did not use Serial Numbers to indicate the date a gun was manufactured. Instead they stamped a two letter date code on the left hand side of the barrel just in front of the receiver.

On my gun that code is worn but it appears to be either "PR" or "RR". According to what I've seen online, that would set the manufacture date as either June, 1924 or November, 1924.

Can anyone confirm or correct these dates?

Also, there is a small proof mark or hall mark on the barrel just following the date code. Can anyone direct me to any type of resource that explains these marks or do they have any meaning?

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!

Bob

PS: Just in case it matters, the S/N is 6440XX.

I see they were made from 1909-1936. Same as Model 12 A but the 12C has an octagon barrel. Remington did use the R code for the year 1924 but so far that is all I can find.
