I never have, but I wouldn't mind getting the kit eventually.

I probably will once I go to mount my viper pst

Do you have a sinclair scope ring alignment tool? It works great for checking how your scope will fit without mounting it. Keep in mind that you should only lap steel rings as aluminum rings can be cut to much very quickly. On light recoil non magnun cals. 75% contact is good. Do you guys re check and record your scope sight on your bore sighter. If you make a scetch of your crosshairs pin point on the boresight grid after sight in you can remove your scope and reinstall to the same POI very quickly. It saves time and bullets.

I never have. In fact it has only been recently that I learned about performing that task.

Except for my .22 and my muzzle loader, all my hunting rifles have had the mounts and scopes installed by Williams Gun Sight here in MI. TBH I'm not sure if they did it or not when they mounted everything.

Now that I know about the process, I am thinking of trying it in the future.

Yea it seems too easy and simple not to do.

I'll by purchasing the kit once my vortex comes in.

Anyone have recommendations on a specific kit? 30mm

I did on both my rifles. I have the Wheeler scope mounting kit as well and find it very useful.

No, I haven't. Never really gave it a thought. I will now, though.

I also have the Wheeler Kit that covers 1" and 30mm rings and always lap unless I am using the Burris Signature Rings with the nylon inserts.

I bought the Remington "one-piece" rings, for my model 700, but I did not lap them. They are rock solid none the less.

I don't lap rings.. I do however only use quality rings (usually Warne) and pay attention when mounting.. You can generally feel if things are binding.. generally...

I have never had a pair of rings that didn't benefit from lapping...larue, EGW, badger ordinance, nikon, etc.
