I have a 1963 Model 700 in 7mm Remington Mag. It's stainless steel, factory blued. Also, it has an interesting stock which seems to be a stamped checkering with 3 petaled leafs on either end of the checkered areas. My questions are 1- was the blue on stainless process called something special? 2- were their very many made? 3- is the stock called something out of the ordinary? Thanks in advance for any help.

Stainless steel typically doesn't accept gun blue due to the high nickel content.

Though, you can use phosphate to turn certain grades of stainless black.

So, 35remman, I take it you're a fan of the .35 Remington? I am here, also, and have 2 Marlin 336's in .35 Remington, an excellent deer round in my area where you may also encounter black bears.
