Replacement 1100 barrel help

Good Morning All,
I recently inherited a gorgeous 1100 with a 2 3/4, 28" mod choke vent rib barrel. According to the folks at Remington it is a 1981 edition. I would like to add a barrel with remchokes. Is there a source recommended here please? While searching just a bit I see barrels described as "normal contour" , "field grade finish". I would like the barrel to have the original deep polished blue so what should I look for as regards finish. And what are the different contours please?
Also, if a good deal pops up but it has a 3" barrel, will this fit okay?

Thank You for any help

Another alternative, which is probably cheaper, would be to have choke tubes retrofitted to your barrel. Do NOT skimp on a quality installation. I will vouch for Mike Orlen or Briley's. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtop ... 12&t=36237 Others may be as good but I don't KNOW that.
The only thing available now, new, are Standard Contour and Target Contour barrels. The Target Contour are lighter but they have larger ports and are not recommended for heavy loads.
Anything other than a matte finish should be a reasonably good match.
A 3" chamber barrel will fit and work, but you will likely have functioning issues with light loads.
Barrels are available from Remington, Midway, Brownells, on ebay, or GunBroker. Make sure the picture matches what you want and call before buying if there are any questions.

As for aftermarket barrel threading, a good friend of mine loaned me his tap and reamer set and I recently threaded two shotgun barrels with it. Though, they were both done in the Mossberg/Winchester choke thread pitch.

Thread pitch doesn't really matter to me because chokes are readily available in both. You just have to know which type to order for the gun.

I threaded an 18 inch Mossberg barrel and a 20 inch Remington barrel. I love 'em both. Total time spent was about an hour and a half. The first one, I took more pains with since I was learning and the second one went much quicker since I didn't stop every 10 seconds like I did on the first one.

edit: sorry for the large pictures that you have to scroll over to see.

I am glad you are happy with your choke tube installation, but I have seen too many that were not parallel to the bore and caused POI and other issues. I prefer someone who uses a piloted system, or a lathe.

If the shims are snug in the bore, there is very little chance of becoming misaligned at any time during the process.

You can see the pilot in the top photo above. It is brass. And they come in several different sizes to ensure that you can get a tighter or looser fit depending on the individual barrel you're working on.

I have a lathe, but with the placement of the magazine tube ring, wouldn't fit through my headstock. A longer barrel would have been no problem, but as I mentioned, I wanted to use the short barrels for hunting these days.

Less weight and length that I have to pack through the woods, the better.
