Serial# ends in B

Hey guys kind if trolling here. But thanks for the help. I own a 721, thanks Grandpa, and I’ve been eyeing a VM for a while. Excited! Found one second hand, never fired??? for what that’s worth.
New VMs look to have serial numbers like RT84XXXA. Post on shotgun world stated Nov 2012 and later would RT32XXXA and up. Here is the rub, this gun is RT28XXXB. First, WTH is the B? Second, This is in the Remington Hard case that has the 200 year stickers on it. I could think that the Rem made 96k VMs in 4 years and rolled the odmeter, but if that was the case the new VMs I see wouldn’t be RT84XXX, right? If it is pre 2012, what serial numbers were subject to the original recall?I’m wondering if his possession is not on the up and up and he doesn’t want to send to Rem for warranty.
Had to ask cause, this deal seems to good to be true. Please don’t tell me that B stands for made in Bangkok. I think I’m over thinking it, but any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

First, welcome to the forum. I'm sorry that I don't know the answer to your question but Remington is usually pretty helpful in letting you know when the gun is made if you call their customer service number.

They told me within a few minutes when my 870 was made. Emailing and asking never did get an answer, but the live person on the phone was a really nice lady and answered the question without a second thought.

As for why your Grandfather doesn't want to send it in if there is a warranty issue, is beyond me. That's something you'd need to ask your grandfather. If there is a recall part, I don't even think he needs to be the original (or 10th) owner. They just want to replace whatever the court said they needed to.

Thanks.
I did call Rem, and yes, when I provided the serial# to the VM, they were able to promptly identify the model and manufacture date. Unfortunately I was so excited for an affirmation to match the weapon I was looking at, I forgot to ask what the B is supposed to indicate. I am now a proud owner of a VM Synthetic.
I'll report back after I shoot. I'm 6'6" with arms like a t-rex, so I'll probably be back for fitting tips.

Grandpa's 721- not a problem in the world. It's a .270 on it's way to 65 years old, shes used but been treated right. Had the crazy idea to start shopping for a new stock, but I don't think it would be right if nothing is wrong.
