I recently picked up an 870 competition model ( one with gas piston). Could not find mention of any in the 870 section. If there are any members out there that have one I would like ask a few questions about this model

Checked my book on the Competition Trap model. Stated it is a single shot competition model with special walnut and vent rib. Made from 1980-86. Sound like yours? Can't help more. Mine is a TB 1100.

The 870 Competition is an excellent trap gun. They were a bit slow to catch on, I guess old hands were afraid of anything 'automatic', but once the word got out the demand increased exponentially. When one becomes available for sale in any kind of decent condition they usually sell quick for good money - $600 plus. Except for a few parts that should not be subject to high wear, most of the parts are from Remington's parts bins for 870s and 1100s.
By the way, if the gas system ever did fail completely one could still shoot it just like a regular 870, albeit for one shot.

Yeah never saw one myself. Sounds like quite the gun. Glad I bought my 1100 TB. Even has an ivory bead up front. Fancy figured walnut will sure cost today.
