As someone who lives in Alabama, I approve of this!

All the talk around here is that it is a move. Remington will be building guns in Huntsville, with over 2,000 direct jobs and more ancillary jobs for sure!

Remington is moving from Ilion, New York due to the current New York State administrations anti-gun policies...

I heard it was an expansion.

Me too. I read an article that they were expanding, but not shutting down their NY plant. I guess we will see.

Neither, really. Cerebus bought Remington, Bushmaster, POF-USA, Cobb Manufacturing, and a dozen other companies and together formed Freedom Arms. The layout for manufacturing is that most of the Remington manufacturing happen here in Ilion. The SAP ERP systems used to be in South Carolina. All of that IT data center support will head to Huntsville, AL. Cobb (Skip and Buzz) will still be in Paulding County (where I used to live), Rifles and Carbines will be in Ilion (where I live now), IT will be in Huntsville, and some other sales components will heads to Huntsville too. So yeah - Freedom continues to expand as the stock does well and they buy other manufacturing companies; but not a lot will move. We could never move Ilion because 200 years of chemicals are in the ground. To sell that property it would be like a super-site. Would cost billions to get the chemicals out of the ground so you could level it and let someone else build a factory.

Sure would love to tour the factory in Ilion if at all possible. I read in a Shooting Times magazine years back concerning Remington using what was called Computer Flexible Manufacturing. Wish I had saved it. Sure would like to see how things are done. Toured the Smith and Wesson plant a few years back. Took us through some interesting procedures.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Remington Arms will shift two of its gun assembly lines and as many as 150 workers from its oldest plant in Upstate New York to Alabama because of the NY Safe Act, according to a Central New York lawmaker.

"Remington Arms has a storied history in Ilion and I know that the decision to shift jobs out of New York is not made lightly," state Sen. James Seward, R-Milford, said in a news release today.

"However, the fact that the lines being moved out are for products now more strictly regulated in New York due to the overreaching SAFE-Act sends a strong, obvious message," Seward said.

Starting in July, Remington will begin shifting assembly lines of its Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle and 1911 pistol to Alabama, eventually moving from 100 to 150 jobs. The plant currently has about 1,300 workers.

The move is part of a larger reorganization by Remington as it plans to open a new massive factory in Alabama, the website The Outdoor Wire reported. This week, Remington workers at six locations, including Ilion, were notified of the changes, the website reported.

"A concerted effort is needed in Albany to show Remington unified support - and that includes a revision of the state's excessive anti-gun laws - otherwise I am afraid additional jobs, and families, will be forced to move south," Seward said.

"As the company shutters operations in other states like North Carolina, Utah, and Georgia to move them to the new Alabama plant in order to achieve efficiencies, it is at least reassuring that one-thousand good paying jobs will remain here in the Mohawk Valley," he said. "Moving forward, I stand ready to assist Remington in meeting their needs in the Mohawk Valley, and that includes securing state support to help with facility upgrades at the company's birthplace."

Good info Shooter. Always nice to know the latest info. Glad to hear jobs will still be had in Ilion. Hopefully get a break on corporate taxes as well as well as getting out of anti-gun state. Remington does offer a broad range of sporting arms including the old favorites including the 1100,700, and the rimfire line.

FWIW, I purchased an RM380 in early December and a 1911R1 three weeks later. Both were manufactured in Huntsville.

Jim, I was aware of the new RM 380 to be built in AL. Do you know if the entire R1 line will now be built there also?
