Purchased this rifle at auction a few years back and find no serial number or even Model number on it.The receiver has been polished strongly but the information as to patent date etc on the barrel is clear.EB2 is stamped under the forearm and there are three other things also. One looks like an arrow pointed down the barrel, then another arrow with a barb going in the same direction as the arrow and a strange looking thing similar to a two winged butterfly. These three things are between the barrel cut outs for the forearm screws. One in this case. The underside of the butt plate has a stamped number 13649.It this could be a serial number then the EB2 doesn't match from what I've read. The rifle shoots as expected and is decent condition wise, depending on the polished receiver. The word Remington runs from sight to receiver and not up side down. Any info will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

I'd love to be able to see that gun.

And it's not surprising that there isn't a serial number on the gun. They weren't required of manufacturers until the gun control act of 1968 (GCA).

These guns were produced well before a serial number was mandantory so don't stress that there isn't one.

Wikipedia lists them being made from 1922-1935.

The arrows that you mention on the barrel are essentially witness marks to tell the assembler how far to seat the barrel.

There is some more info here if you want to read it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_Model_24

The only way to post pics on this forum is using a photo hosting site such as imgur.com and using the [img] tabs

Thanks again.I'll have to figure it out. I hadn't taken it apart for years and when I did there is a number stamped on the front of the receiver 12215 there is a 215 on the receiver base beneath it also.Perhaps this is the serial number.Any ideas out there of mfg date or if this is ,indeed, the serial number.

Heard back from Remington ,the 12215 is the serial number and it was made in 1923. Thanks
