Hi all

As the subject line suggests, I'm from Canada. Southern Ontario to be a little more precise.

Saw this site while looking for info on my Remington rifle and was impressed, so I registered. Still hope to fix an issue with my gun, but wanted to introduce myself first.

I hunt for deer and moose in Ontario, Canada. Thus the name 'bucknbull'. Might give bear a try at some point too. Been a Remington owner for nearly 20 years. I have models 7600 and 760. Both pumps and both are 30.06 calibre.

Cheers!

Welcome buck! Remington fan for over 40 years myself. Love the hear of your hunting experiences and the accuracy of your Remingtons. Have to travel to use my centerfires for deer but my 700 and Model Four do see some use.

Hi mauser

My 7600 hasn't shot anything yet, but I haven't used it for hunting for a few years now. It has a 3 x 9 x 40 mm Bushnell Trophy scope. Accuracy is pretty good at the range at 100 yards. I'm no sharp shooter, so a 2 to 3 inch grouping is fine with me at that distance. This is the rifle I have issues with. The action isn't closing fully, and therefore, the ejection thingy that's supposed to hook on the edge of the cartridge and pull is backwards isn't moving forward enough to catch the cartridge edge. Very frustrating. Hope to get some info here on how to fix this problem. The rifle is great and worked perfectly until I took it to the range one day and shot a box of ammo through it. It was after this that I had issues with the action not moving all the way forward to fully lock in place.

My 760 is just fitted with iron sights, but has taken a few deer at close range. (10 to 40 yards)
I love the quick follow up shots with the pumps. I had it at the range, but only took a few shots at 100 yards to see how close I could get to the bullseye. All over the page, but at least hitting paper. Might put the scope on it from the 7600 to increase the accuracy.

I also have another brand of rifle in 30.06. Bolt action and 3 x 10 x 44 mm scope. This is my main moose rifle right now and because of the problem with my 7600, and has become my rifle for deer most of the time. I use the 760 in tight spots or walking through the bush to push out deer.

Thanks for reply. Sorry to hear of the problem. Wonder if it could be a spring or extractor problem. Does not sound like a tough fix for a gunsmith. My 700 wears a Bushnell Trophy also and for $150 it has clear glass and retains zero so far. Been to Pa. and Maine a few times. Good luck with the fix and good hunting!

Welcome.

I've gotten a lot of deer in my lifetime, but never hunted moose. That's only because there are none this far south.

I had a 7400 in 30-06. It was a decent gun. The more you fired it though, the less accurate it became. Groups would start opening up into a shotgun pattern, rather than a group.

Welcome aboard. Refreshing to hear your a Gun Owner & Hunter. Is it true that Gun Regulations are pretty strict in Canada?

Our regs are strict in some respects and confusing in ALL respects...lol

It's really weird because in some US states you guys have some pretty draconian laws in place and taking shape. However, here in Canada all firearms are regulated by the Federal gov't. So, there is one set of rules (albeit confusing in many respects) for everyone. We can't pack a pistol without special authorization and to say those permits are not easily approved is an understatement. I don't personally know a single person who has been approved.

We have 3 classes of firearms: Non-restricted (essentially long guns) / Restricted / Prohibited

These classes do not apply to LE or military.

Pistols and many semi-auto rifles (especially ones that are military variants) and/or under the prescribed overall length are restricted(range use only). Some are restricted or prohibited by name because...well no one is exactly sure why. Just because they look scary I guess.

All select fire or full auto capable firearms are prohibited...period. Because AR15's have the ability to be select fire with the appropriate lower receiver installed they are considered a restricted firearm (range use only). However, select fire lower receivers are prohibited here and being in possession of one would likely land you in jail.

Many semi-auto rifles are restricted and some are not. It makes no sense. It does not seem to matter that a Mini-14 (non-restricted) and an AR15 (restricted) can both hold as much ammo and do as much damage as the other. Typical hunting rifles and shotguns are non-restricted with the odd exception, whether due to barrel length or some other notion some bureaucrat determines is a valid reason for exclusion.

Demolition Ranch visited Canada awhile back and did a decent job of looking at our laws.

Thanks for the greetings everyone.
Yes, definitely some confusing laws regarding firearms.

I'm still trying to understand what an assault rifle is. In the the minds of the media and general public, any rifle with a pistol grip seems to be an assault rifle.

Here's a quick story.

Took a scoped .177 cal, air rifle to a moose hunt a few years ago. Supposed to shoot up to 1400 fps. More than enough power to take a few grouse, but I brought it strictly for target shooting. Have some fun and pass the time back at camp.

Guy that put moose hunt together makes a comment that my air rifle is going to get us in trouble because it looks like an assault rifle. It had a pistol type hand grip behind the trigger and last few inches of the barrel was a larger diameter, making it look like a silencer or muzzle brake. That's it !

I gave him a weird look, then shook my head and walked away. You can't fix stupid !

Pretty well explained buck.Often wondered if my semi-auto Rem would be allowed in Canada. Sure don't look like an assault rifle.

Here's a true story for you.

Many years ago, a long time friend of mine was having a small bachelor party. Just a couple of us getting together having a few beers just celebrating that he was going to get married and all. Only girls that were there was the bride-to-be and another guys girlfriend. I guess in looking back at it, it wasn't a bachelor party as much as it was mostly us using it as an excuse to drink.

The guys girlfriend was visiting from Chicago. She had a pretty bad personality always wanting to be the center of attention and the biggest bad ass in the room. Anything you talked about seemed unimportant to her, but her stories were always supposed to be more fantastic and everyone was supposed to be in awe of them.

So, after a while, everyone feeling the beers and shots and moonshine, we decide to turn on the porch light on the back porch and shoot some since it was still before 10PM, our basic cut off without having to worry about getting charged with disturbing the peace or anything.

As soon as the guns started coming out from behind the truck seats and out of the trunks and carried across the yard and through the house to the back door, ms. Chicago bad ass wigs out yelling and going on about all of us going to hell, or maybe it was going to jail? I dunno. It was kind of blurry by that point, but at the first sign of the guns, she freaked.

Said she was getting the hell out of there and started walking home (12 miles away) as soon as she heard an sks dump it's 30 round magazine because she thought swat and the national guard was going to storm the trailer because we were shooting those scary looking things out back.

No one offered to drive her home because we had all had too many to drive anyway, so it wasn't until after the wedding I heard someone ask about her and I found out that his girlfriend went back to Chicago the following weekend.

Where it was safe.
