Hi guys, I'm an old timer in age, just new in this forum but not to guns. The reason for just joining today is what I think was a great buy I found today.
I was in a gun shop about 100 miles from home when I happened to see the profile of a 788 in the rack out in the public area of the shop. Next glance was at the muzzle where I noticed it was about .22 caliber and was hoping for a .222. Nope a June 1980 .223 in about 98 percent condition except for a couple of D&T scope mount holes on the barrel and a Weaver mount on the receiver. The tagged price was $150... I did not put it down and did not even try to argue the price down, I just bought it!
Now I am wondering how many .223's were made? The June 1980 is fairly late for 788 production I think and the series number is A300040XX. Blue Book doesn't show a premium for .223 cal but I suspect it is one of the lessor productions. Comments?
