I have a pre serial number speedmaster 552. I have owned this rifle for over 30 years and shot very little. Recently while shooting I had a bolt breakage. After replacing the bolt and inspection I noticed the rifle did not match the parts diagram, no bolt buffer or buffer pad. All can be replaced but looking at the receiver the damage done from the missing parts I don't know if the replacement parts will now fit as needed. Any advice or help is appreciated

Honestly it's not entirely clear what the issue is. I don't think Remington has substantially changed the guts of the 552 so I'd check with either Numrich for parts for various vintages, or call Remington customer service.

So after all this time I just found out I'm missing bolt buffer and buffer pad. the bolt has been hitting the raised part in the receiver. I have a bolt buffer and pad on order but I'm not clear how it fits in the receiver. I think the raised area holds it in and it has damage from the bolt hitting it. Now I don't know if it will secure the bolt buffer and pad. Thank you for the response.

Remington was no help at all. sent them an email with this post, they sent one back telling me to take my gun to a qualified gun smith.

I would be surprised if they offered repair guidance over the phone in this liability-happy-age. But you could have asked (and I'd do this on the phone, not by e-mail) about the vintage of your rifle, what are the correct parts for that rifle, and if they offer any installation instructions. Your old bolt buffer may have simply dry rotted and fell out thru many years of inactivity.

They look like, once you remove the trigger group and bolt assembly, to just slide up into the rear of the receiver.
